The Most Important Tactical Gear | A Complete Guide

It is always important to be prepared. You never know what you could come up against, or what could happen outside your control. Between the pandemic and riots, now more than ever, people are preparing themselves to protect everything that matters to them. Plus, tactical gear is useful in all sorts of situations. You can use it to help protect yourself or make your day-to-day much easier. It all depends on the application. Thankfully, tactical gear is extremely versatile.

If you want to be prepared for anything, getting the right gear is the first step in the process. Whether you are a hardcore prepper if you just think the gear looks cool, or something in between, you need to know what you are getting into before you buy. We will start off with arguably some of the most important pieces of gear, and then work our way down from head to toe.

EDC Belts & Holsters

The one item that will help you be the most prepared is an EDC belt or Everyday Carry belt. This is a belt that is made to withstand the abuse that you will put on it day in and day out due to your holster, flashlight, and other EDC items. This is a belt you will come to depend on, and that is why you need a quality one. We are especially proud of our EDC belts, and you can check them out here.

If you want a belt that is a little more tactical, you need a battle belt. These belts are much larger than EDC belts, and they can also hold a lot more. This is a belt that you can throw on in case of an emergency or a bump in the night. Our battle belts are a two-piece system that includes an inner and outer belt. The inner belt is designed to be worn through your belt loops and the outer belt attaches over the top of the inner belt via hook and loop. The outer belt holds all your equipment and with this system, you can quickly have a pistol, flashlight, extra mags, and anything else you can fit on the belt at your disposal.

First Aid Gear

When we are talking about defensive gear, we normally talk about tools that create holes and stop holes. AKA, guns and first aid. If you are in a situation where you are wearing a plate carrier, then you probably expect to be in a bit of a hairy situation. If that is the case, you need to be able to survive a bullet or two. To do that, you can easily attach a tourniquet with one of our tourniquet holders to your plate carrier or belt. They are MOLLE compatible, and can even be attached vertically or horizontally to whatever you want to attach them to.

A tourniquet is one of the most important first aid items you can have, although a standard first aid kit should not be overlooked. You need a kit with plenty of gauze, chest seals, tape, and things that can help you in combat. This is called an IFAK (Individual First Aid Kit). A little kit with a few alcohol wipes and bandaids is not going to help much, you need an IFAK to store medical supplies dedicated to trauma care

Tactical Headwear

Those two things are the most important pieces of tactical gear you will buy. Of course, you want more than a first aid kit (IFAK) and a belt for your tactical situations. One thing you may want is a helmet. Bump helmets are extremely popular in this field. They give you bump or ballistic protection and still allow you to use ear muffs or comms while you are wearing them. You can also use a helmet to hold your night vision or thermal optics.

Tactical Vests/Shirts

The role of tactical gear is generally to keep you protected. Something that you do not want to overlook is the basic protection that a shirt can provide. Cuts, scratches, or pinches from other gear can slow you down. So, you want a quality and highly durable shirt that can withstand any and all activities that you find yourself in. You also want to ensure that it is a breathable shirt, so you do not sweat excessively.

Body Armor & Plate Carriers

If you are going into any sort of situation where bullets could be flying, you want to have some body armor. With a quick google search, you can easily find a plate and carrier bundle that is not overly expensive. Although body armor is not the kind of thing you want to cheap out on. You can go with level 3A armor if you want to stop handgun rounds, or level 3 if you want to stop 5.56/.223 and 7.62×39 as well. If you want to be totally protected from nearly all rifle rounds(at least everywhere your armor covers), try a level 4 plate.

MOLLE & Mag Pouches

The plate carrier that you purchase to wear your body armor will likely have plenty of room to attach MOLLE pouches and extra magazine holders. This is a great addition to your tactical gear setup. If you have a quick action battle belt with a sidearm, and then throw on your plate carrier equipped with even more gear and ammo, and grab your favorite AR, you will be well prepared for anything the world can throw at you.

Tactical Backpacks

A backpack is a good idea if you plan on being out for a while. There can be a lot of gear that you want to bring along to certain situations, so having a durable and tactical backpack is a must. Some tactical backpacks even come with added kevlar to further protect you from shots. If you want to be prepared in a split second, having a bug-out bag is an excellent idea. This is basically a tactical backpack that is already packed and has everything that you would need in an emergency, and it can make all the difference.

Tactical Gloves

Gloves are something that some people overlook, but it is just like the basic shirt we talked about earlier. A solid pair of tactical gloves keeps you protected and keeps you at your best. The last thing you want is a cut on your dominant hand when you are in a tactical situation. Keeping your hands protected, keeps you in the fight longer. Plus, many tactical gloves provide especially thick material on your knuckles, which could be useful in hand-to-hand combat.

Tactical Pants

Sticking with the idea of protection, a quality pair of pants are a must. If you trip or tear a cheap pair of pants, you are not going to have a good time in the field. You need to stay protected, which means you need a durable and comfortable pair of tactical pants. These kinds of pants also have plenty of pockets! Gear storage is always important when we are talking about tactical situations, and a good pair of pants will help with that.

Tactical Boots

Of course, you need some tactical footwear. What makes a pair of boots “tactical” you may ask? Well, a tactical pair of boots are simply boots that hold up well to several different types of tactical situations. This means that your boots should be slip resistant, waterproof, extremely durable, and comfortable for extended use. You really just want a pair of boots that will make it through anything, and that you do not have to worry about while you are in the field.

Totally Tactical

This list was an overall example of the most important tactical gear you should have. Sure, you can have a hundred other little pieces of tactical gear, but none of them will have quite the effect as what is on this list. Make sure you consider the two most important items on this list, the Battle Belt, and the First Aid Kit. These two items will be responsible for making and plugging holes, so it is extremely important that you get them right the first time. Stay safe, and good luck out there!
